Flatford Mill and Dedham Lock

Everyone is on holiday and, as it was my birthday, I got to choose what we do. I needed to get the kids out for some fresh air and decided to go back to Constable Country - it's ages since we had been and it's only just over 1/2 hour's drive. We started at Flatford Mill...

Rather helpfully, there is a sign telling you where to stand to take your own Haywain picture...

Who pinched the wagon?

Rather than the circular walk we had done before, we walked along the River Stour across Dedham Vale to Dedham. The girls enjoyed visiting the craft centre on the high street, but Little W was unimpressed, so we stayed outside in the sunshine.

Dedham Mill has now been converted to a block of flats...

...so the view from across the other side of the river isn't too close to the original painting.

"I'm so tired I'm going to die", announced Little W as we walked back along the river. Honestly, it's not that far! But we had done enough to build up a decent appetite and we stopped off here...

... at the Red Lion in East Bergholt for some lunch. The food was excellent, as was the Greene King Hare Raiser

After an afternoon bike ride we still had some appetite left for a birthday tea...

Cheers!
