There are some similarities between Sherborne and Bury St Edmunds. Both towns grew around an ancient abbey. Both are fairly rural, and both have been settled by part of my clan.
Sherborne is rather smaller, though, and is dominated by the school. Being there during 1/2 term it seemed particularly sleepy, apart, that is, from the stonking Sherborne Country Fair, which was held on Monday. It was a bit chilly, but stayed dry. There was loads to see and do and taste (the moroccan harissa chicken was particularly delicious).
