Today there was a carnival in Bury St Edmunds to celebrate 400 years since the granting of a market charter to the town by King James I. There was a procession of floats through town to the Abbey Gardens. We packed a picnic and went on down.
As we are the Abbey Gardens early, we went up Abbeygate Street to meet the procession coming. Of course we had to go to the market, and got distracted by these lovely sausages...
...from eastern France. Very tasty, so we ended up getting some and nearly missed the beginning of the procession. There were a number of floats with bands and dancers too. We rather liked the sparkly pompoms...
...and the chinese dragons...
...and the giant rugby ball.
There was a radio show and fairground attractions in the gardens...
but we preferred to eat our picnic just outside the rose garden. We managed to resist attacking the french sausages, though. (But only just).
